Lunch in Pardubice, and zdravá food

Pardubice's town square.

After the morbid epic-ness of the bone cathedral yesterday, it seemed appropriate to do something more relaxed today— like tour around the town square of Pardubice, the next large town by train over from Hradec Králové.

Help, I'm being attacked by a giant fish! Or a giant metaphor!

And today, I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves.

I did venture out dining again— and since I was with a (wonderful and patient!) native speaker, ordering was super easy. I also got a chance to figure out how to “read” menus, looking for clues is things are gluten-free or veggie. (Like the US, a “v” stands for vegetarian, but a “c” stands for celiac.)

Also, lunch was a  tasty Czech take on vegetarian food: smoked tofu, covered in onion gravy, topped with veggies and beets.

In addition to learning what gluten-free is in Czech, I’ve got another clue to scoping out vegetarian restaurants: zdravá, which is Czech for “healthy.” When I’m in Prague this weekend, I’ll keep my eyes open for green restaurant signs advertising that they’re “zdravá.”

My new favorite restaurant.
